The Redpath heating mats are ready-to-use heating mats with thermostatic temperature control in the range 5 - 40 °C. Available in a wide range of sizes.

The heating mats are designed to produce a maximum soil temperature of 35°C.

The heating mat will bring you more success in growing from seed and propagating plants from cuttings. This is because the heat that is generated is directed to exactly where it is needed, namely in the soil, near the plant's roots.

The heat output is accurately calculated for even heat distribution in the soil, whether in propagators or plant pots, and encourages the growth of roots and seedlings.

THE STRUCTURE OF A REDPATH HEATING MAT
The actual heating element consists of a special resistor cable with several layers of protection and a coated safety cover which is stitched, at a safe distance from the loops of cable, to a sheet.

THE THERMOSTAT WITH REMOTE TEMPERATURE SENSOR
An important part of the heating mat is the thermostat with remote temperature sensor. This sensor is inserted in the root area of the soil being used for propagation or over-wintering. It then maintains the temperature which has been set on the thermostat. It can be set to suit the type of plant you are growing, within a range from 0 to 40 °C

AUTOMATIC MISTING CONTROL

The balance arm system is a tried and proven automatic watering / misting controller. The system consists of

One “balance arm unit” – with mercury switch

How it works:
The gauze balance arm pad can be set with an adjustable counter weight on one end of the arm to your appropriate misting sensitivity. When the unit is switched on the mercury switch on the balance arm will allow power to the solenoid and the watering process is begun. As the balance arm gauze pad collects water droplets, the weight of the water “tips the scale” and switches off the solenoid. Over time the water will evaporate from the gauze pad and the counter weight will tip down and switch the watering system back on again.

This process repeats indefinitely and is self adjusting in respect that the warmer and drier the conditions, the faster the evaporative process takes and therefore the more frequent the misting will occur.

15mm PVC pipework / connectors as desired

The system is supplied with three misting heads - however more or less of these may be run as desired (dependent on available water pressure).
