1. WHAT SURFACE DO I NEED TO BE ABLE TO ERECT A GREENHOUSE?
A flat level surface is essential; however, this can be made of soil, grass, paving, concrete or a combination of these materials. If the ground is not level then you will be required to adjust your base framework to be level, so that the glasshouse may sit on a level surface.
2. DO I NEED SOME SORT OF BASE OTHER THAN A FLAT LEVEL SURFACE?
Yes all glasshouses must have a base of some description (unless stated) be it timber/aluminium/brick so as to allow the door(s) to slide in the overhanging bottom track. Please refer to the base dimensions page to view the exact requirements for this.
3. MY GARDEN IS ON AN INCLINE. WHAT SORT OF BASE DO I NEED?
Remember a flat level surface is essential. You can build from the highest point outwards or the lowest point inwards to bring the site to level. Any of the above components mentioned will be ideally suited.
4. WHAT CHOICES DO I HAVE FOR GLAZING A GLASSHOUSE?
Redpath offer this glasshouse with the standard multi sheet horticultural glass which is 3mm thick.
Where safety to users, children and pets are of paramount importance, toughened safety glass or 4mm glass is popular alternatives to standard horticultural glass. Ask Redpath to provide a price estimate for this type of material if required.
Toughened glass is actually safety glass in that it crumbles into small particles when broken - much like a car windscreen.
5. ARE THERE ANY OTHER ADVANTAGES OF HAVING FULL LENGTH TOUGHENED GLASS?
Yes, full sheet toughened glass replaces all the overlap clips that eradicate the overlapping panes of glass. It also eliminates the potential for alga growths and draughts in these areas making for a warmer glasshouse and one which is easier to clean. The glass fits to the frame eliminating the potential for glass slip. Ask Redpath to price this optional extra if required.
6. HOW MUCH VENTILATION SHOULD I HAVE IN MY GLASSHOUSE?
All of Redpaths glasshouses and lean-to's come with at least one roof vent as standard. Additional roof and side vents can be supplied for extra ventilation and automatic vents should also be considered especially if the greenhouse is likely to be left unattended.
7. CAN I COLLECT RAINWATER FROM THE ROOF OF MY GLASSHOUSE?
Redpath glasshouses have aluminium gutter(s) built in as standard which adds additional strength to the existing structure. Water can then be trained into a barrel or directed into a grid or garden.
8. CAN I BUY DIRECT?
Yes you can deal direct with Redpath glasshouses, or purchase locally through one of our many agents nationwide.
9. HOW IS MY GLASSHOUSE PACKAGED?

20. HOW STRONG IS MY GLASSHOUSE OR GREENHOUSE AGAINST WIND ... AND WHERE SHOULD I LOCATE IT?
You should locate your glasshouse or greenhouse in a semi sheltered location, without direct exposure to extreme wind or wind gusts. If this is unavoidable - then a small shelter belt fence should be considered to help protect the building and its openings (doors, roof vents , windows and cladding) from extreme conditions. A sunny location will benefit most plants. It is simple to provide shade to the plants if required.
